Platform X

Key Features

Streamlined Access to Clinical Research Data

Established governance, data-sharing agreements, and workflows between SMPH and UW Health allow approved data to be delivered directly into Platform X. This reduces the need for manual data transfers and simplifies access to clinical data for research projects.

Research Computing Tools

Support for commonly used research applications, including R, Python, Stata, ArcGIS, and other analytical tools.

Dedicated Support

The Platform X team provides assistance with onboarding, environment configuration, infrastructure management, and ongoing support throughout the life of a project.

Access to AI Resources

Researchers can securely access Azure AI services and Azure AI Foundry, including a model library containing more than 10,000+ AI models for machine learning, natural language processing, generative AI, and other research applications.

Flexible Cloud Infrastructure

Hosted in Microsoft Azure, Platform X provides scalable compute and storage resources that can be adapted as research needs change, including flexibility in computing environment (Windows or Linux).

Secure Cloud Computing for Research

Platform X is a cloud-based computing environment hosted in Microsoft Azure that supports research involving sensitive data, advanced analytics, and artificial intelligence. Designed for researchers across the School of Medicine and Public Health, Platform X provides secure access to computing resources that can be tailored to the needs of individual projects and research teams.

AI in Platform X

Platform X enables researchers to incorporate AI into their work while maintaining appropriate protections for sensitive data.

Through Azure AI Foundry, researchers have access to more than 10,000+ AI models, including large language models, open-source foundation models, and specialized models for research and analytical applications. Available options support a range of use cases, from document processing and summarization to predictive modeling and machine learning.

Built for Research

Platform X combines flexible cloud infrastructure with research-focused governance and support. Data sharing agreements and established processes between SMPH and UW Health help facilitate the use of sensitive data while maintaining appropriate security and privacy protections.

Researchers can choose Windows or Linux environments and access computing and storage resources that scale alongside their projects.

Research Applications

Platform X supports a wide range of research activities, including:

  • Clinical and translational research
  • Data science and analytics
  • Machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Population health research
  • Geospatial analysis
  • Statistical computing

Researchers can work in either Windows or Linux environments and use commonly requested tools such as R, Python, Stata, and ArcGIS.
